The first
step in obtaining a DC registration for your vehicle is
getting your car inspected at one of the DC
Vehicle Inspection Centers. If you are purchasing
a new vehicle, your exempt from this requirement.
After you have paid your inspection fees, then certain forms
and documents will be needed in order to register your vehicle.
Please note that you must have a valid DC driver
license at the time of vehicle inspection.
Out of state vehicles will be required to pay any and all
parking violations before license plates are issued. |

The fee
to register a new car with the DC DMV is $550.00, plus 5.75%
sales taxes of the MSRP (including all options), $28.00
administrative fee, $3.50 paperwork fee, and the fees associated
with the license plates.
The fee to transfer an out of state registration is $870.00,
plus 5.75% sales tax of the original value (regardless of
current condition), $79.00 administrative fee ($100.00 for
Virginia vehicles), $100.00 paperwork fee ($200.00 for Virginia
vehicles, $350.00 for Virginia SUVs and trucks), and the
fees associated with the license plates.
For payments of vehicle registration fees, we can only accept
cashiers checks or funds transfers from The Bank of China.
There is a Bank of China branch at our Disney
China DMV location. The Bank of China will charge
$18.00 for cashiers checks. The Disney China location does
not perform any vehicle registrations.
Residential parking zone designations are no longer included
